VISUAL ART - PRINTMAKING

Graphic art is the term applied to the act of printmaking and drawing. The term includes the trades of lithography, engraving and etching, where impressions are printed from various kinds of blocks, plates and screens. In the traditional printing processes that are used, the personal influence and technique of the artist play a large role. Graphic art can also serve as a good base for learners who would like to study graphic design after school.

Grade 10: Learners are primarily introduced to techniques such as monoprint, lino, woodcutting and wood engravings. A combination of collage and printing processes is addressed. Learners are also guided to work across disciplines and to have knowledge of the interaction between the idea and the process.

Grade 11: Learners' technical skills are developed further.

Grade 12: Learners' technical skills are developed further, and they are encouraged to develop in a specific area. Technical aspects are evaluated and the use of screen-printing processes in combination with other printing processes is encouraged.
