DESIGN - DESIGN ILLUSTRATION
Design illustration can range from sketches outlining ideas
to presentation drawings explaining a product. Design illustration
incorporates the study of figures, plants, animals and industrially
designed objects. Learners are trained to design creative
illustrations to explain textual information for magazines,
book covers and posters or decorative illustrations that are
transferred to lamps, plates and banners.
The design of letter types also forms part of the course.
Grade 10:
The basic principles of design are mastered, as well as a
wide variety of illustration techniques, story building, colour
awareness and the relationship between text and image.
Grade 11:
Learners are encouraged to develop their own illustration
style using and building on the knowledge that they have gained
in Gr10.
Grade 12:
Learners work independently on set projects. They may choose
any technique or adjust the projects to their interests. It
is important that they find their own creative identity as
illustrators.
